In the enchanting world of Pokémon, where the search for the Grail is done in laminated cardboard, a shadow recently hung over a collector from Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine. The scenario worthy of a tragic film took place in June 2023 when more than 200,000 Pokémon cards were stolen from an avid collector, leaving the community in shock.

Pokémon cards, much more than just pieces of laminated cardboard, have become real treasures for fans. With a history starting in 1996, the franchise has transformed into a global empire in just twenty-five years, winning the hearts of millions of fans around the world.

The recent attack on a collector in the Rennes region has highlighted the dark reality that can surround this passion.

The facts

In the middle of the night, this collector was attacked and beaten, leaving behind a void of more than 200,000 Pokémon cards stolen and hidden in trash bags. Investigators were able to advance the case thanks to traces of DNA discovered on pieces of torn trash bags, but the shadow persists.

Three men were arrested in January, and the trial is scheduled for February. However, the mystery remains, as the 200,000 stolen Pokémon cards remain untraceable. Only 500 of them have been found, sold to fans who may have been innocent of the origin of these coveted cards. The collection has therefore not yet been found by investigators.
